Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of Left 4 Dead (L4D) casts four "Survivors" in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying "Boss Infected" mutants. Developed by Turtle Rock Studios and Valve, creators of the Counter-Strike and Half-Life games, the latest AI technology allows for multiplayer games of one to eight players.A new and highly virulent strain of the rabies virus emerges and spreads through the human population with frightening speed. The pandemic's victims become grotesquely disfigured widely violent psychopaths, attacking the uninfected on sight. As one of the "lucky" few apparently immune to the sickness, you, unfortunately, are also trapped in a city crawling with thousands of the bloodthirsty Infected. Alone, you're dead. But together with a handful of fellow survivors, you might just fight your way to safety.Players can play as a Survivor or as one of four types of Boss Infected, each of whom possess a unique mutant ability, such as a 50-foot tongue lasso or a giant belly full of explosive methane gas. The gameplay of L4D is set across four massive campaigns. The zombie population of each mission is choreographed by an AI Director that monitors the human players' actions and creates a unique and dramatic experience for them on the fly.

Other than that I am VERY VERY happy with my purchase. And 4 chapter simply isn't nearly enough game play. I was VERY VERY impessed with STEAM and their ability to make this one of the most solid online gaming experiences ever. Valve also did a fantastic job of ensuring a high level of random sponing each time you load the game.With a game this good I wish the character selection and weapon options would have been more diverse.

Well unless you sell the steam login ID and password with them which the "seller" (original owner) will also always have access to. Meaning the game's key code is tied to the Steam User.

I would NEVER buy a USED steam game now knowing this and I want to make sure those unfamiliar with steam know as well. This means I cannot sell 1 (let alone both) of my RETAIL COPIES to anyone.

This game is AWESOME, you do need an online connection (visit steam dot com for more info). Now it's Decent, but it is a USER LICENSE.

Also bear in mind that Left 4 Dead 2 (TWO) is out in the fall supposedly so don't spend more then $30 unless you REALLY have too. I bought 2 RETAIL copies of this from Amazon but THEY CANNOT BE RESOLD.

I used steam once before this A LONG TIME AGO, and it was bah back then.

I'd say the hunting rifle is my personal favorite especially when zooming in and going for head shots it looks like something right out of the new Dawn of The Dead or Romero's Diary of The Dead. My one star is merely for how long the installation and WAITto play the game took once I got it and not the actual game itself. I would say if you enjoy PC shooter and horror movies or even just into Zombie Flicks or 28 Days Later then this IS the perfect game for you. (the hospital level really reminds me of that movie). I have a 512K Connection and it was the longest wait ever on a game installation.The only drawback I can see to this game is the lack of variety in weapons. The things like Molotov's, Gas Cans, Propane Tanks are VERY cool.The Gatlin guns are fun 2 although not quite as useful as you would imagine if the hordes happen to be comnig fro a direction the gun won't point 2 lolFor a horror movie fan like myself it's a great game.

Plus the 2nd will split the gamers in two. Awesome game, loved playing, just mad that i waited so long to buy it bc/ now there is a Left 4 Dead 2 coming out soon and i feel all the updates promised for the first game are going to go undone.
